How many classified ads do the various scripps sites have online at any given time?
Here's a live, rss-driven png that answers exactly that.

Not that useful to most people, but I wanted to know.

It has to poll nearly 20 sites, so give it some time. Maybe 1 second per site?

Google Labs


People get very good at games like chess and Go by studying master games. Software design and coding is similar in that we learn patterns and new ways of approaching problems.

I really enjoyed reading the paper on Google's map reduce library this morning. A great way to increase programmer productivity by abstracting away details of handling huge data tuple sets. The paper is detailed enough to make me feel like I could implement their ideas (given the Google file system infrastructure).

TurboGears Framework

20MinuteWiki.mov (video/quicktime Object)

Following rails, the web dev world has re-exploded with web development frameworks. TurboGears is another python framework. This one differs from others in that it really is an assembly of existing technologies rather than a complete stack unto itself. My favorite bit is the use of MochiKit with JSON.
