Sun doesn't have the advertising budget it once had, but that's never been because of their hardware, which has always treated me well over the years. For biz-crit applications, I almost always reach for their hardware. It's good, not just good-enough, and you have to pay for that. Of course, good-enough can cost you too sometimes. That's why I thought this was hilarious.

Designer Charles Trevelyan had some new designs at 100% London and writes; "My main piece was the Shelflife shelving system, a large shelving unit or room divider that features a chair and table that can be pulled out from within the shelves. I also showed a lamp, Titanic, designed to appear to be sinking beneath the surface of the table."

This week I was bitten by a mistake someone made who hadn't learned the same lessons I had years earlier.
Put your lock files in /tmp. It's one of those things you learn the hard way. Since /tmp get flushed clean on every bootup of a unix system, this means that after a power failure or other hard reset, your systems will begin functioning normally. Otherwise, you can count on no one noticing your otherwise smoothly running tasks have stopped until its impact is too great to ignore ...
