Fresh Ben Sightings

posted: 2007-10-29 21:13:50

Some fresh Ben sightings I dare you not to check out:

That was at the company baseball trip this summer.

These are all from the Fourth of July fireworks:

These were all taken by Staci ( and Jay? ) and really show how poorly Beth and I have done at taking pictures of our own family. Maybe we'll get a decent camera this Christmas.

Am I full of shit? Tell me why. [ 196 remarks ]

A note from the author

HackerMojo.com is using a fluid layout based upon work by Dave Reeder. I'm trying to take CSS a little more seriously; but I'm having a hard time because of all of the bad syntax, browser compatibility hacks, and non-fluid layouts. If any of the other technology I used were like CSS, I'd have to set myself on fire and jump off of a cliff.

More on the two column layout

posted: 2007-09-08 17:19:19

More tweaks on the two column layout. In addition to using multiple columns to pull the comments up alongside the original posting, I can use the second column for a single prominent ad and a few navigational tools.

This gives the ad a persistent spot on the page in a location that doesn't compete with the content, but maintains a certain amount of weight and commands some attention in so far as there is ...

Gambling with my Income

When did our government decide that it wants civilians to gamble?

The tax code has always been a source of uncertainty that has encouraged a certain segment of the population to take risks with their interpretation or adherence to the letter of the law, but in the last few decades ...

Hosting is hard

I received a note recently from the guys who do most of my dns hosting -- DNSArt. After 7 years of providing DNS services, they've decided to call it quits. I've done business with them since before they got into the DNS business -- they're an entrepeneurial sort, and ...

Death of the AP

posted: 2007-08-31 15:18:22

Let's connect some dots:

The AP's wire services have become almost irrelevant to local newspapers.
U.S. Newspapers are lining up in droves as part of a consortium to partner with Yahoo for distribution and other support.
The AP partners with Google to house the articles and photos ...

What's up with Yahoo?

posted: 2007-08-29 22:43:26

Yahoo is definitely experiencing some pain. Three days ago, my favorite part of my.yahoo -- the news feeds of items related to your portfolio -- just disappeared, leaving a big open void in the middle of my page. No word on where it went, why, or when it might return.

Fire Tonight

posted: 2007-08-11 23:39:18

There was a fire tonight near Cedar Bluff and Middlebrook. My wife and I first noticed it on our way home from dinner. There was a large plume of smoke, but I didn't think it was dark enough to be a real fire. Curious, we detoured towards it and went ...

Two Column Layout

posted: 2007-08-06 23:56:42

I've gone to a two column layout for the blog entry pages as minor experiment on usability. My premise is that, on the web, interaction is important. So much so that people often find the comments on an item as interesting or more than the content proper. If this is ...
